Reopening Schools
7/26/2021 12:05:46 AM
If the COVID-19 cases keep on declining there is every possibility about educational institutions reopening across the country.
The government has already announced that colleges and universities will reopen in August and all the teachers and students have been asked to get vaccinated.
Since the day the pandemic has hit the country, the education sector has taken a severe hit. Students have been attending online classes and most of the exams have been held through the online mode.
Children studying in private schools and institutions have been benefitted to some extent by the online education system but the students of government schools have not been able to get much benefit due to one or other issue.
Schools and colleges had opened briefly in January this year but these institutions had to be closed after the COVID-19 cases increased. Recently Union Health Minister stated that there is no evidence about the possibility of third wave of COVID-19 impacting the children.
The government is devising the strategy to reopen the schools and colleges as helmsmen don't want to take any chance this time around. Educational institutions turning into COVID-19 hotspots had put the helmsmen in a tight spot. Their decision to reopen the schools had drawn flak.
After the second wave of COVID-19 engulfed J&K, people realized the importance of getting vaccinated and the importance of following the Covid sops.
During the past two months many people have taken COVID-19 jabs and experts are hoping that situation will improve in coming months. Developing herd immunity holds the key.
The Past two years have taught us that maintaining social distance, wearing masks and maintaining hand hygiene are important to keep the Covid at bay. If the cases keep on declining children may return to schools soon. Children have lost focus over studies due to educational institutions remaining closed.
Though the world has shifted to an online mode of education, studies have not been the same. Students are missing their classrooms and the campuses.
Virtual mode of education is fine but it's no match for the classroom culture. Since the day students have heard that schools may reopen they are happy as they want to resume their normal lives. Sitting at home has been no fun. They want fun to return into their lives. If the situation improves in the coming days, the government should reopen the schools in a phased manner.
