| Vohra pays tributes to Police martyrs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 21: Lauding the role played by the J&K police in combating insurgency and maintaining law and order in the state, Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra has said that the Police force is doing a commendable job in carrying out various tasks which it has been entrusted with. He was addressing the Police Commemoration Day function held here today. He said that it was due to tireless efforts and sacrifice of the force and other security agencies that the menace of militancy has been curbed to a larger extent. He said, "we should not forget the sacrifices rendered by valiant officers and jawans who gave supreme sacrifices for the integrity of the country". Mr. Vohra said that Police Commemoration Day is observed every year in the memory of 10 CRPF personnel who laid down their lives while repulsing the Chinese attack at Ladakh on 21st October, 1959. This year, 683 police and para-military force personnel laid down their lives in the service of the nation which also includes 48 from Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP). Earlier, in his address, the Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda read out the names of 683 police and para-military personnel who laid down their lives in the service of nation in various parts of the country, which includes 48 from Jammu and Kashmir Police. Among others present on the occasion were, Advisor Home Dr. S.S.Boleria, Chief Secretary, Mr. S.S.Kapoor, Director General Sports, Mr. P.S.Gill, Vigilance Commissioner, Mr. R.V.Raju, DGP (CID) Dr. Ashok Bhan, ADG CRPF Mr. Karamveer Singh, Senior Civil, Police Officers & families of Police martyrs. |
