7/27/2021 12:22:35 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 26: The Displaced Persons (DPs) from PoK residing within the jurisdiction of Tehsil Marheen, district Kathua held a dharna/massive protest led by Ashok Kumar Sharma, President Tehsil Marheen and Hiranagar under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) against the alleged corrupt attitude of Tehsildar Marheen and his lower official staff. The protesters demanded immediate suspension of Tehsildar and constitution of a committee to probe his corrupt practices.
Addressing the DPs sitting on dharna adjoining to the office of the Naib Tehsildar Marheen, Ashok Sharma along with Master Kuldeep Rai, Mohinder Sudan, Deepak Raina, Khem Raj, Munish Rishi, Mohinder Pal Sharma, Satinder Singh and Dr Narinder Sharma said that the Tehsildar Marheen is blatantly violating laws/rules enshrined in J&K Agrarian Reform Act, particularly in respect of DPs for his personal gains. He has no respect and care for his senior officers and orders issued by them are flatly disobeyed. Ashok Sharma said that despite of many representations sent to all the higher authorities of Revenue deptt. alongwith evidences yet no action has been taken against him.
Gurdev Singh, President JKSAC, said that the DPs are demanding since long the constitution of a high level committee to probe the violation of Agrarian Reform Act being committed by Revenue officers in broad-day light for the past several years, causing great harassment and loss to DPs. He said that many times Lt. Governor and Principal Secy Revenue and other senior officers had been urged upon to intervene to put the rein on revenue Deptt particularly Tehsildars and Patwaris having no respect for law and are looting the innocent people without fear.
He assured the DPs that their struggle in this regard would be taken to a logical conclusion and JKSAC would not allow such officers like Tehsildar Marheen to play with the lives of DPs anymore. He appealed to Lt. Governor, Principal Secy Revenue, Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Deputy Commissioner Kathua to probe the issue and till than demanded the suspension of Tehsildar Marheen.
Later, Rakesh Sharma, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Hira Nagar visited the site of Dharna/Protest and listened the grievances of the victims of both Tehsildar Marheen and Naib-Tehsildar Chann Rorian and assured the protesters that strict action would be taken against the said officers as per law and nobody should be allowed to violate the Agrarian Reform Act particularly in respect of DPs of 1947 from PoK.
