9/12/2006 9:54:56 PM

Srinagar, Sept 12 : Expressing optimism about the positive outcome of the Havana meeting between the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President, Gen Parvez Musharaff, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said both the leaders would begin a new chapter of peace leaving behind the bitter legacies of the recent past.
"I sincerely hope that the two visionary leaders would never allow this opportunity to go waste and take courageous steps to bring the peace and composite dialogue process back on rails," Sayeed said in a statement issued here today. "People of the sub-continent are expectantly looking towards the two leaders and I am sure they would not be dismayed," Sayeed said adding that the worst hit are the people of Jammu & Kashmir who have to pay an enormous price with their blood and lives for the continuing Indo-Pak conflict.
"I am sure the two leaders would not allow the vested interests to disrupt the dialogue and peace process and act with determination on their resolve to carry ahead the mission of peace and prosperity for the region," Sayeed said adding that in particular for the people of J&K peace is not a choice but a necessity as it is a question of life and death for them.
Sayeed called for complete cessation of hostilities within the State to pave the wave for peace and normalcy in tune with the people's yearnings, who have been suffering the miseries of turmoil and strife all these years.
Sayeed said there should be free flow of ideas, goods and services across the Line of Control (LoC) to workout the ultimate peaceful resolution of the Kashmir problem. To push ahead the peace process, he suggested various Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) including improved communication links across LoC, including resumption of air links, opening of more trans-LoC transit points, frequent and hassle-free movement of people and goods and cross exchange of tourists, pilgrims, students and faculties of universities.
