| 16 day DST programme on minerals commenced | | | Jammu, Sept 12: A sixteen days DST sponsored advanced training programme on mineral deposit modeling commenced at University of Jammu, here today. The 16 days DST advanced training programme on mineral deposit modeling programme organized in collaboration with Department of Geology, Jammu University and was inaugurated by Director General, Geological Survey of India P.M Tejale. About 30 geologists and researchers from different parts of the country, who are representing 15 states and 24 organizations, are taking part in this training programme. Addressing the inaugurating function, Tejale emphasized the role of the mineral resources in nation economic and industrial growth. “India is world’s largest producer of mica blocks and mica splinting” he said adding that the country has steeped up its production to reach the 2nd rank among the chromite producers of the world. Welcoming the guest Prof GVR Prasad, HOD geology department of Jammu University, in his address said that this year is being celebrated as 100th year of the start of geological teaching in Jammu. While presenting the profile of the department, Prof Prasad announced that the department of geology, Jammu University has been awarded rupees one crore this year for the improvement of laboratory facilities by the department of science and technology under its FIST programme. While highlighted the objectives of the programme Dr Pankaj K Srivastava, the course coordinator of the programme said this will be a big boost for the mineral and mining industries to have a well trained pool of the professionals. |
