POONCH, Oct 22: ‘President’ of the Pakistan administered Kashmir, Raja Zulqarnain Khan has said that trade across two sides of the Line of Control will bring people closer to each other but this is in no way a solution to the Kashmir issue.
In a goodwill gesture, Raja Zulqarnain accompanied the goods carriers from Rawalakote for the inward journey to Poonch till Chakkan-da-Bagh. A colourful function by the artists of other side was held across Zero Point when the PaK President signaled the goods carriers for their entry to this side. President of the Muzaffarabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Zulfikar Abbasi, who was recently in Jammu as leader of trade delegation, was present on the occasion.
Speaking to journalists from both sides of divide, Zulqarnain said, “initiation of trade ties is a historic beginning and it will bring people from both sides closer to each others”. However, he hastened to add, “trade, of course, is a good sign but this in no way is any solution to the Kashmir issue. A sustained dialogue and confidence building measures between India, Pakistan and people of Jammu and Kashmir must continue for reaching at a lasting solution”.
Zulqarnain favoured shedding the historical baggage of past and making a new beginning for a mutually shared future of the coming generations. “We should look at a new life”, he said.
In good news for lakhs of Hindus and Sikhs this side, Raja Zulqarnain said that all temples and gurudwaras in Pakistan administered Kashmir are being repaired and renovated.
Earlier, as a part of the cross LoC trade, three trucks carrying gift items from across the border, arrived here today. The trucks carrying gift items including rice, rajmash, onions, garlic, potatoes, cabbage, bananas and grapes from across the LoC arrived at Chakkan-da- Bagh in Poonch
The District Development Commissioner Poonch, Mohammad Afzal received these trucks in presence of large number of local residents.
It may be recalled that Uri-Muzzafarabad and Poonch-Rawalakot routes were opened yesterday for trade across LoC after a gap of over six decades. Yesterday trucks carrying gift items were dispatched to PaK from Poonch to mark the beginning of trade between the two parts of the state from the twin routes which were closed after 1947 Pak aggression.
