| Rajouri has 388 polling booths, wants additional 66 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Oct 23: As many as 388 polling stations have been set up in Rajouri district for ensuing assembly elections, scheduled to be held here on 23rd of November 2008. Besides, for establishment of additional 66 auxiliary polling booths a list has been submitted to Chief Electoral Officer for approval. This was informed at a meeting of Assistant Returning Officers (Tehsildars) held under the chairmanship of District Election Officer, Sheikh Rafiq Ahmed. Of 388 existing polling stations, 86 have been established in Nowshera while as 95, 124 and 83 are located in Darhal, Rajouri and Kalakote assembly segments respectively. A total of 141 polling booths have been declared normal, 166 sensitive and 81 hyper-sensitive. Every Tehsildar has been supplied two Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with strict directions to impart training to the electorate within their respective jurisdiction on war footing basis. They have been asked to train all the employees associated with elections. Block Development Officers, ZEOs, Range Officers as well as teachers will assist Tehsildars of their respective areas in imparting EVM training to the electorate in special camps. Addressing the meeting, the District Election Officer called for strict compliance of model code of conduct, cautioning that any government functionary found violating norms of Election Commission directly or indirectly will be brought into books. |
