JAMMU, Oct 23: The completion of the 450 MW Baglihar Hydropower Project has rendered 2,600 people, most of them labourers, jobless.
"Over 2,600 employees, mostly labourers, have been retrenched at Baglihar project as it is complete and commissioned. No work is left for them," J&K Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) sources said.
The work force was on the pay-roll of the construction company -- J P Industry and after completion of the project, JKPDC has no work for them, they said.
JKPDC now needs only 150 qualified persons for maintenance and other jobs at the project, they said adding those retrenched employees who are qualified enough for these posts would be considered on priority basis. |
