Vouches for skill development of PwDs to enable them lead dignified life
DC Rajouri distributes prosthetic aids among specially-abled persons

RAJOURI, Aug 3: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan today distributed various prosthetic aids among 173 beneficiaries here at Samajik Adhikarita Shivir organised by the Social Welfare Department in the Conference Hall of the PWD Dak bungalow.
Among others, DSWO, Wakeel Ahmed Bhatt; DIO, Narinder Kumar; TSWOs and staff of the social welfare department were present on the occasion.
The prosthetic aids were provided by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India( ALIMCO) under the ADIP scheme of the Government. The assistive aids included 13 tricycles, 24 wheelchairs, 07 C.P Chairs, 50 Hearing aids, 84 Elbow crutches, 10 Artificial limbs, 32 Calipers, 44 Axilla Crutch, 09 Walking sticks and 10 Smart Cane.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the Social Welfare Department and Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) for providing necessary aids to the specially-abled persons of the district.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the Government has taken several measures for the welfare of the disabled persons from time to time, including financial assistance in the shape of pension, free education, free medical treatment, free travel, vocational programmes etc and a large number of people in this category are availing these benefits. The Deputy Commissioner added that the District Administration is committed to provide better services to the specially-abled persons of the district and persistent efforts are being made to mitigate their sufferings.
The Deputy Commissioner also said differently-abled people too deserve growth in all aspects of life, be it physical, economic or social and they require a dedicated platform to help them attain a place in the society and assistive technology helps in smoothing their lifestyle, working on their weaknesses and making them more productive.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the need of the hour is to pay more attention to the professional development of specially-abled persons so that they can live a dignified life in society.
