| Chaman contests Congress claims on development | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 24: The former Union Minister and a senior leader of the BJP, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has poo-poohed the claim of the Pradesh Congress President, Prof. Said-ud-Din Soz, that the Congress would go the electorates on the issue of Vikas and the works done by the coalition, especially during the tenure of Ghulam Nabi Azad Sarkar. Discussing the Talking Points with the party activists for the Electioneering, Prof. Gupta observed that the coalition, particularly the 32-months rule of Azad Government had not only been quite dismal and this dispensation was the worst ever the state had witnessed during all these years of independence. There was record number of agitations, strikes, Dharnas and demonstrations but the Congress led coalition was so irresponsible and immune to the public demands that large number of unemployed youths, men of the Homeguards, technocrates and so many others are still on the roads cursing this government, he added and pointed out that the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission were not implemented despite loud promises of being the first state of the country to be the first. He further pointed that thousands are daily rated workers, adhoc and contractual employees who were promised moon by the Congress leaders but they have been not only left in the lurch but no increase was made in their merge emoluments despite unprecedentented price rise. On the contrary under the leadership of Ghulam Nabi Azad the salaries of the Legislators and Ministers were increased by about three times. But a daily wager was still getting just Rs. 70 per day without any increase during all these years, and that too, their emoluments were never paid in time. Prof. Gupta said under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan the Centre had provided massive assistance to the state. The Congress leader claim that they have opened large number of new schools, in addition to about 50 Degree Colleges. But the plight of these educational institutions can be well imagined that there were not even TATS and other infrastructure for seating of the children. Certains Colleges existed only on papers. Many of the Degree Colleges have no buildings and instead of the requirement of eight to ten lecturers, there are just two to three teachers, he added and quoting an example, he pointed out that Billawar Degree College is having just three rooms and hardly two to three teachers to teach ten subjects. Not only this the 3-rooms Degree College can function just for three and half hour viz 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. because in the afternoon the same three rooms are utilized to accommodate the students of Higher Secondary School classes, he added and alleged that this Congress government was responsible for playing with the future of lakhs of students. About the progress made in the field of power, Prof. Gupta recalled that on November 18,2004, at a public meeting at Jammu the Prime Minsiter, Dr. Manmohan had loudly promised with Jammuites that by 2007, the State would not only become self-sufficient in the field of power but also have surplus energy generated which would become a source of revenue for the state. But today after expiry of about five years now that ground reality is that the power curtailment has gone up from about four hours to about thirteen curtailment has gone up from about four hours to about thirteen hours or even more in certain areas. The plight of government Medical College, Jammu is another example of this sad performance of the coalition and there was not a single field in which the people are not faced with painful sufferings, the BJP leader asserted and asked the activists to go to the electorates with all these facts and figures to expose the claims of progress and prosperity being made by the Congress leadership which has given birth to numerous problems like that of separatism, militancy in addition to regional disparities and so many other evils. |
