| Sat Pal upset as Bhagat joins NC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 24: The National Bahujan Party (NBP),headed by Dr Satpal, has criticised former BSP Chief,Yashpal Bhagat, for having joined hands with the National Conference.Describing Bhagat's decision to join the Natioal Conference as a "stab in the back of our ovement" Satpal said that Bhagat had shown interest in entering the Assemly than in fighting for the interests of people belong to to the poor and backward classes. In reply to a question he said till a couple of days Bhagat had agreed to join the NBP or help "us" in the formation of a broad front with the aid of Labha Ram Gandhi, leader of POK Refugees.Asked whether he too would join some other organsation Satpal said "there is is no question of joining any other party."He said NBP has decided to go alone in the coming election and if any likeminded people or political parties wanted to forge alliance "with us we will welcome it." He said that if Bhagat had joined the National Conference others, who supported him earlier, were in touch with NBP and "talks were on for bringing some of the know supporters of Bhagat in the NBP." Experts said that while Bhagat's entry in the National Conference would help the party led by Omar Abdullah to gain electorl advantage in other constituencies also, this step has already fomented discord within National Conference. Indications are that those opposed to Bhagat's entry in the NC were planning to contest as independent candidates. |
