Seven-day deadline for removing NH encroachments
Div Com warns all from Jammu to Lakhanpur

JAMMU, Oct 24: To review the progress on the ongoing work on 4-lane National Highway from Jammu to Lahanpur, the Divisional Commissioner Sudhanshu Pandey on Friday convened a high level meeting of Deputy Commissioners of Jammu, Kathua and Samba.
The meeting discussed various issues relating to the speedy construction of National Highway from Jammu to Lakhanpur which include possession of land for Kunjwani flyover, shifting of electrical utilities, removal of trees, handing over of land for construction of approaches for Basantar Bridge, land for wayside amenities, trucks parking and shops etc near Chichi Mata temple.
Pandey has asked the respective Deputy Commissioners to immediately remove the encroachments along the National Highway within seven days, besides making payment of acquired land after assessment of compensation so that the construction of the road would be completed within stipulated time frame. He asked the PDD authorities to shift 145 electric poles coming in the alignment of ROW and also raise the height of high tension line. He directed the Forest Department to remove 71 trees and forest check posts from both sides of the National Highway. He asked the DDC Samba to handover the possession of land at Harsath village besides land on either side of Railway under Bridge within seven days so that highway construction work could progress. He directed the Deputy Commissioner, Kathua to immediately pay compensation to farmers whose land was acquired so that they did not utilize the said land for agriculture purpose.
Regarding construction of Bari-Brahamna flyover, the Project Director National Highway Col. M. K. Jain apprised the Divisional Commissioner that 80% work of the bridge was completed and remaining 20% would be completed by December this year.
Earlier, in another meeting, the Divisional Commissioner asked the National Building Construction Corporation Ltd. (NBCC), the executing agency for sewerage system in Jammu city, to expedite their construction work so as to complete it well before the opening of darbar move offices in Jammu.
Interacting with the engineers of NBCC, Pandey deliberated upon the technicalities of the project undertaken by them and discussed the problems. He stressed that the main roads identified should be completed on priority and the internal roads besides other bigger roads be also taken up for early completion. He advised NBCC engineers to work in co-ordination with R&B and PHE departments to work out the technicalities not only for smooth functioning but also better results. Various other related issues were also discussed.
Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Sourabh Bhagat, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Mandeep Kaur, Chief Engineer, R&B, Chief Engineer, PHE, Vice Chairman, JDA, officers from JDA, JMC, PHE, engineers and NBCC officials attended the meeting.
