| Dar escapes bid on life | | Couple among four killed across the state | | SRINAGAR, SEPT 12: The former Union Minister of State for Home, Mohammad Maqbool Dar, escaped unhurt in a militant attack today near Shirpora in South Kashmir’s Anathnag district in which two youth congress activist were injured in the attack Whereas a couple was killed by unidentified gunmen in Kandi area of Rajouri district late last night. Meanwhile two Lashker-e-Toiba (Let) militants were killed in an encounter at Chataral area of Poonch District. A Hotel was damaged in an Improvised Electronic Device (IED) blast at Kandi Rajouri, official sources and reports said Tuesday. According to the reports reaching KPS, Mohammad Maqbool Dar escaped unhurt when suspected militants blow up an IED the movement his escort vehicle passed through Karpora Shirpora where IED was planted. Sources said that Dar was on his way to the Kulgam when IED exploded. Two congress activist, Ghulam Nabi Bhat and his son Rafiq Ahmad Bhat were injured in the blast, sources said adding that both of them were shifted to hospital. Dar, who was a Minister in the United Front Government, had joined the National Conference but quit the party and contested the elections in Anantnag as an Independent candidate in previous election, had a life bid earlier as well when he escaped unhurt at Wachi area in Pulwama. Reports further said that unidentified gunmen killed couple in Rajouri late last night at Rajouri. Official sources said A group of gunmen moving in Kandi area came across Jamal-ud-din,50, and his wife Guddu Begum, 46, as the duo was resting in a meadow, adding the gunmen shot them dead probably after some verbal dual. The deceased, hailing from a nearby village, had gone out to graze their cattle, sources said. Reports said that heavy contingent of paramilitary troops and police were deployed and search operation to nab the attackers has been launched. In another incident, a hotel was damaged when an explosive device planted by suspected militants went off in an earthern oven, they said. There was no loss of life or injuries to anyone in the incident, sources added. In yet another incident, two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in Chataral area of Poonch District, official sources said. Two Ak- 47 rifles, magazines, several ammunition, mobile, satellite phones, tapes and diaries were recovered from the slain LeT militants. Troops claim to have seized a large cache of munitions, including 50 grenades, from a suspected militant hideout in Rajouri district of Jammu. Troops busted the militant hideout during a search operation at Mangrote village in Kalakote tehsil of the district last evening, sources said here today. The seizures included 30 hand grenades, 20 grenades of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), 32 explosive packets, 250 meters of cordex wire and 60 rounds of sniper gun, they said. In another incident, a police patrol party found a hand grenade at Ghai-madwal in Sunderbani area of the same district, they said. A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detected near Maheshpura chowk here and defused by police, foiling militants' plan to target two local hospitals. They had planted a seven-kg IED near the Chest Disease Hospital gate last evening, police said today, adding some passers-by noticed the suspicious object and informed the Bakshi Nagar police station at around 2300 hours. Police rushed to the spot and summoned bomb disposal squad, which defused the IED wrapped in a white plastic bag, they said. The IED has been send to Forensic Science Laboratory to ascertain the quality of the explosives. No arrests have been made so far in this connection, police said. Direction has been given to major hospitals and other such crowded institutions to beef up security inside and outside their premises where militants can target innocent civilians, Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma said.
