These young cricketers, who approached SAN, criticized the general secretary of the JKCA, Salim Khan for his statement wherein he termed the protesting cricketers as `some rejected lot, who want selection without any merit’. “Salim Khan, who never witnessed our performance, has no right to issue such an `irresponsible’ statement at the behest of some individuals in Jammu,” said one of the visiting cricketer, adding, “we want the JKCA president to direct his subordinates in the Association to first correct their faulty system of selections at various level and then blame the cricketers.” Highlighting their concern, these cricketers, who pleaded not to be quoted, said, “During the Ranji trials at Jammu, both the selectors were not serious towards their assigned job. While Vidya Bhaskar was irregular, the other selector, Nirmal Singh was often late at ground.” “Moreover, the State Sports Council coach, Randhir Singh, who supervised the trials, was not consulted at the time of final selection of Jammu wing probable by the JKCA,” alleging the irregularities on part of JKCA, one of the cricketer told SAN. Further countering the statement of Salim Khan, the cricketers said, the boy who has been named in the FIR, lodged by the JKCA, was declared best bowler in the inter-college competitions last season. They (cricketers) questioned the Salim Khan’s statement of `fair selection’ in the wake of non-inclusion of man of the series of this year’s tournament organized by JKCA Jammu wing in the list of 14 probable from Jammu. The fearsome cricketers disclosed that the higher official of the state government, on whose behest the FIR has been lodged by the police, has managed to get his son selected in the probable. It may be recalled that the cricketers, who were not included in the 14-member probable list from Jammu for final selection of State Ranji Trophy team, lodged protest at the JKCA Jammu wing office on October 18. Consequent upon the protest the JKCA lodged a FIR with the police. |
