| Governor visits Tangdhar, meets people | | Quake ravaged Tithwal emerging as a glittering model village | | TITHWAL (LOC)SEPTEMBER 12- Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today lauded the resolve of Tithwal residents on LOC for pushing behind the agnoised earthquake tragedy to embark on a path of progress and complimented the civil administration and Army for the stupendous success in rehabilitation of the people affected. ‘It is a success story; bowl shaped ravaged valley blooming into a glittering model village with all amenities’, the Governor remarked during his extensive tour of Tithwal, the village adopted by the Army for all round development, after the horrendous disaster caused by massive earthquake on October 8 last. The Governor expressed his immense satisfaction with the way the valley was shaping up in a habitation having all modern facilities like community centre, shopping block, schools, health centre, Recreation Park with an amusement segment for children, road upgradation and potable water supply. All houses in the village are electrified and there is also street lighting in the village. The Army did it in just eight months, winter hassles notwithstanding. General Sinha visited the local schools for boys and girls and different segments of the community centre housing a health club, tailoring and knitting units, computer section besides library and interacted with the inmates. He was impressed by the facilities made available for local boys and girls with a view to enable them earn their livelihood. In an informal chat with media persons, the Governor said that after rescue operations, the biggest challenge was to provide relief and ensure rehabilitation of the earthquake sufferers. He noted with satisfaction that at this hour of need the entire Nation stood behind their hapless brethren and supplemented the efforts of reconstruction. Various voluntary organisations like Radha Swamy Trust and Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board were among the first to raise prefabricated shelter sheds for roofless population, he said. Corps Commander, Lt. General S S Dhillon gave a detailed briefing to the Governor about the mammoth effort put in by the Army in creating an envious model village with numerous state of art facilities like schools, sports field, community development centre besides electricity and water supply schemes. The Governor was received at Tangdhar by General Officers in Command of 15 Corps and 28 Infantry Division, Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara and senior civil and military officers. Tanghdar bowl stands out as an oasis of peace and harmony in a largely insurgency torn State. The region with a popular of nearly 52000, despite being right on the Line of Control has never witnessed any militancy related incidents. It has the unique distinction of having a Sikh village in a largely Sunni population which is so well integrated with the rest of the population that it can become a model rest of the country to emulate. The Army has been endeavouring for social resurgence and economic development of the area along side the civilian administration. The Army has launched a host of schemes like augmented education facilities, vocational training, recruitment rallies, micro-hydel projects and organising of local sports meets which not only engage the local youth in a positive and constructive manner but are also instrumental in putting the Karnah tehsil on fast track development. The Governor urged the local Civil Administration and the Army to carry forward their mission of bringing cheer to the lives of those who suffered immensely during the earthquake. |
