Folk song competition organized

Jammu, Aug 11: The Cultural Club of GCOE, Jammu organized a Folk Songs Competition through online mode. Overall seventeen students from different colleges presented folk songs in Dogri, Pahari, Sarazi, Gojri and Himachali languages, during the competition.
The judges of the programme were Rajeshwar Raju, eminent writer, journalist, dramatist and an art critic in Dogri. Mr Rajeshwar talked about the relevance of folksongs and how is it different from classical songs. He also apprised the students about the variety of folksongs that are available in Dogri. Ritu Sharma, well known Rajasthani writer and translator also appreciated the efforts of the college in popularizing indigenous culture. Prof Shapia Shameem introduced the objective of the program in the beginning.
In her mesaage, the Principal Dr Kulvinder Kour appreciated the efforts of students and cultural committee for bringing together the different melodious voices in different languages and dialects together through folk songs. Dr Rajinder Kour, M. Ed Co-ordinator was the Guest of Honour.
The programme was convened by Cultural Committee of the college. The members of the cultural committee who were present on the occasion were Prof Shalini Rana, Dr Tahira Shah, Dr Mansi Sharma, Prof Anuradha Chaudhary, Prof Shapia Shameem, Prof Sarita Dogra, Prof Seema, Prof Neeraj Verma, and Prof Vinay Lata.
The winners of the program were Mr Yasseer Bashir (Gojri song) from IIT Kahragpur and Mr Ravinder Rao (Dogri Bhaakh) of BEd Sem IV. The second positions were bagged by Ms Tania Jasrotia for Dogri Suhaag song of GCOE Jammu and Ms Sheetal Kesar of GDC Gandhi Nagar, while the third position was shared by Richa Anand, Roshni of GCOE and Jagdeep (Sarazi) of GDC Doda.
The programme was conducted by Ms Sabya, Ms Payal Sharma and Ms Yasmeen Choudhary of M.Ed Sem 2 while the Vote-of-Thanks was presented by Ms Diksha Sharma.
