| Jet reduces Jammu flights | | | AGENCIES NEW DELHI, Oct 24: The crises of global recession and its impact on aviation industry has reached Jammu as well as one of most preferred airliners, the Jet Airways has reduced its flights from two to one in Jammu. Till recently Jet was flying even three flights on Mumbai-New Delhi-Srinagar-Jammu circuits which have now been reduced to one only. On a regular routine Jet had at least one flight from Mumbai and another from New Delhi touching Jammu every day. As Jet Airlines is hit hard by highest ever fuel prices and the global financial meltdown, the airliner is cutting down its operations on different sectors. Jammu-Srinagar sector was though a profit route as the number of flyers has been constantly rising but still the airliner has reduced its flight operations. A sales officer of Jet confirmed this to Early Times. Another smaller aircraft of the Jet, the Jetlite which also operated on New Delhi-Jammu-Srinagar circuit is reportedly grounded in New Delhi for repairs. The two leading private airliners Kingfisher and Jet Airways, which recently came together in an operational alliance aimed at cost reductions, have been mulling reduction in the number of flights as part of their cost management initiatives to manage the economic downturn. |
