| Dilawar unfolds blue-print of new Horticulture Development Policy | | Stresses for expansion of marketing orbit | |
BANDIPORA, SEPTEMBER 12 – Unfolding priorities of the government to promote Horticulture Industry in the state, the Minister for Horticulture, PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control and Tourism Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir called for rejuvenating old orchards along side bringing more areas under Horticulture area expansion. He also stressed for expanding marketing orbit of Jammu and Kashmir Horticulture produce within and out-side the country. Speaking at a high level meeting held here today to review the performance of horticulture sector, the Minister said that concerned officers and field functionaries should be given a fixed target for transparent achievement adding that all the employees of horticulture sector presently on deputation in other departments should be with-drawn to make adequate manpower available for implementation of various schemes. He also called for launching massive awareness and training programmes for the fruit growers and traders about various horticulture development aspects. He also asked the officers to implement “Kashmir Garden Fresh Brand” scheme efficiently so that the quality fruit in bulk quantity is exported to outside markets. He ordered to implement Market Regulation Act strictly to ensure quality packaging and grading of the Kashmir fruit. Mr. Mir directed the officers to introduce modern pre and post-harvest techniques to boost production and productivity of horticulture sector in a big way. He directed for immediate up-gradation of basic infrastructural facilities at various Satellite Fruit Mandies of the state adding that fruit growers and traders should be allotted shops in these mandies in transparent manner without wasting time. He said resources should be mobilized to make fruit mandies self reliant. Minister also called for regulating Freight Rate Structure for transportation of fruits outside the valley especially during peak season so that middlemen and unscrupulous transport companies do not exploit fruit growers and traders. All the unregistered and fake transport companies need to be brought to book in this connection, Minister added. He said, concerned government functionaries should exert their full might to check the activities of such fake transport agencies. He said transport for ferrying fruit should be made available from registered transport agencies. He directed for setting up of Weigh-Bridge at Lower Munda to check tax evasion during transportation of fruit from the valley. While reviewing implementation of Market Intervention Scheme, it was informed that a comprehensive action plan has been drawn up in this connection and about 130 C- Grade Fruit Procurement Centers have been established in the state with deployment of adequate staff. Fruit growers would be asked to make best use of the scheme to improve quality of fruit and its standard packaging the meeting was informed. |
