| DGP reviews poll security in Doda, Rajouri | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 25: The police authorities are, at present, engaged in assessing the situation in each district for the purpose of ascertaining whether additional companies of security forces were required for ensuring incident free polling. The Director General police,Kuldeep Khoda, convened a series of meetings in Srinagar which were attended by senior police officers from each district. He had visited a couple of districts, including Anantnag for reviewing the situation and requirement of security personnel. Khoda today visited Doda district where he had detailed discussion with the police officers from Doda and Kishtwar districts.Tomorrow he is scheduled to visit Rajouri where he will hold discussion with senior officers from Rajouri and Poonch districts. This exercise is being undertaken to convey to the centre the exact number of additional companies of security forces that were required for manning the poll process. The state Government has demanded 120 additional companies. However, since the polling is to be completed in seven phases the state's requirement may be on the lower side because under the plan security forces were to shifted from the belts, soon after the end of polling,to the other areas where polling was to be held. Police sources said that the state has sufficient number of security personnel but if the situation demanded more companies could be airlifted from neighbouring states for strengthening the security grid in the Jammu and Kashmir.Following the deciusion of the Governor,N.N.Vohra,to set up control rooms at divisional, district and tehsil level for registering complaints against any malpractices during the election the Government has decided to make available some security personnel for manning these control rooms in collaboration with civil officers. |
