| This Diwali, no expensive gifts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 25: Diwali is round the corner and variety of gifts have flooded the market. But this time the customers are shying away from buying costly goods and relying on either flowers or bakery items to cut cost to suit their needs. Large rush of customers outside flower shops and famous bakery shops in a clear indication that customers who used to buy sweet packets and even dry fruits are shying away from offering these as diwali gifts to their friends and relatives. Gift shops offering variety of goods including soft toys and crockery are ruling the market as most of the women prefer buying these as gift to distribute in their friend circle. Kids also prefer buying gifts, games and chocolates than buying crackers. The diwali season has come as blessing for us, a famous florist in Gole Market area said.We are getting more orders for flowers compared to previous years, the owner of the flower shop in Auqaf market area said.Sharing his own experience he said in the last two days they have sold maximum flowersreferring to growing culture of presenting flowers to family friends among residents in Jammu.He said health conscious people avoid eating sweets and high calorie choclates and have started exploring other options such as gift items along with flowers to greet diwali. Same sentiments were echoed by flower shop owner in post Trikuta nagar.He said rising prices of dry fruits have forced a section of customers to make a change intheir diwali plan to suit their budgets.Another flower shop owner in marble market said, he is in the flower business for last three years but this year he is making maximum profits by selling flowers an gift items. On the other hand home applianc show room owners are cursing themselves this season as in the absence of any lucartive offer their sales are dipping instead of growing owing to Diwali season.The general mood in the market is also low as large numbe rof people who have invested in share markets have lost lot of money due to market crash ahead of diwali.The famous sweet makers and small shops are doing brisk business as health conscious people prefer buying packed gift items than sweets. |
