| Farooq says no poll alliance | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 25: National Conference will not enter into any pre-poll alliance in the ensuing assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, its patron and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said. "We will fight on our own and hopefully win on our strength," Abdullah said after attending a function organised by J&K Christian Dalit Association to pay tributes to Bishop (Emeritus) Hippolytus Kunnunkal here this afternoon. When asked whether NC will go for post-poll alliance if it fails to get a majority to form government, he said: "it will be difficult to form government with alliances and such governments do not run smoothly." However, he said, a final decision about it will be taken only after the results are declared. On the impact of poll boycott called by separatist groups on the elections, the NC leader evaded a direct reply. "I cannot say at where all the poll boycott will take place and what can be its effect on percentage of votes. Governments are made by the people and if the people vote then only government is formed," he said. Abdullah said that party will shortly release election manifesto outlining socio-economic, developmental and political agenda. There will be no change of NC's concept of restoration of greater autonomy for resolution of J&K issue, he said. About delay in announcement of party candidates for the elections, he said the list for the first phase of elections will be announced later today or tomorrow. Governor N N Vohra yesterday issued notification for holding elections in 10 of the 87 assembly constituencies in the border state in the first phase of the seven-stage poll on November 17. |
