JAMMU, Oct 25: The leaders of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti, which spearheaded two month long agitation in Jammu, have claimed that they have got a threat letter from the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). The Police have, however, sought to underplay the issue.
“We have received a threatening letter from the SIMI…the letter is written in Hindi”, Leela Karan Sharma, the convener of the Samiti told Early Times this evening. The letter, according to Samiti leaders has come by surface post and a copy of same has been handed over to the Inspector General of Jammu Police for his cognizance and action.
The IGP Jammu could not be reached for his views but SSP Jammu Manohar Singh said that his office was yet to receive any such information.
“SIMI hamari shaan hai aur Ladin hamari jaan hai reads the threatening letter which is claimed to have been received by Leela Karan the convenor of the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti. It is assumed that that the threatening letter has been sent by the Student of Islamic Movement of India to him. The letter comprises of the dire consequences to the activists of SAYSS creates ripple among the SAYSS and a meeting of core committee has started in this connection where as police termed it as foul smell.” Today evening Leela Karan received a letter in which it was written that the letter is sent to you by SIMI with the glimpses of shayro shyari. It was written in it that the letter is written in Hindi language instead of urdu so that each and every member of SAYSS can read and understand that they will have to face the wrath of SIMI as has been faced by other states. We were warned to keep ourselves shut and adhere with our duties,” an activist of Samiti said.
