| Omar launches campaign in Leh, meets LAHDC leaders | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT LEH, Oct 26: Omar Abdullah President J&K National Conference said his party is committed to the development of the far flung areas of the state. Omar who was on a one day tour here today addressing various deputations said the National Conference is concerned about the plight of the people of the state staying in the far flung areas because they have been neglected by the coalition Government in the last six years. The National Conference President who was accompanied by Former Minster Abdul Rahim Rather, MLC Devender Singh Rana & Nasir Sogami gave a patient hearing to the various deputations who called on him & apprised him of the hardships faced by them. Omar sympathized with them and assured them that if voted to power National Conference will put in all efforts to mitigate their sufferings. Earlier in the day Omar was accorded a warm welcome by the Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Syrin Angchuk and the Executive Councillors of LADHC who later had an hour long meeting with him. A deputation led by Former Minister Chetan Namgyal also called on Omar Abdullah and apprised him of the problems of the people of Nobra and urged him to take up their cause with the right quarters. The NC President assured them of all help & also promised to visit Nobra in the near future. A deputation of the people of Turtuk came specially to Leh to meet Omar Abdullah and submitted a memorandum to him about their problems. Omar made enquiries about the various welfare projects in that area & expressed his dismay at the state of neglect. He assured the deputation that National Conference has always worked for the upliftment of the downtrodden & deprived and will continue to do so in the future as well. Member of Parliament Thuptan Chewang called on Omar Abdullah and had a luncheon meeting with him wherein the two discussed various political, social and developmental issues related to Ladakh region. Omar also called on the Head Lama of the Thiksay Monastery and had an hour long meeting with him. Later he paid obeisance at the Ziarat of Shah-i-Hamdan, Shey. The newly appointed Party Coordinator for Leh-Kargil Feroz Ahmad briefed Omar Abdullah about the party strategy for the forthcoming assembly elections. |
