| Staggered poll schedule may slow down Govt working | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 26: Though five days are left for the move offices, including the civil secretariat, to close in Srinagar the work in Government departments has come to a standstill. Non-muslim employees have already left Srinagar for Jammu to celebrate the Diwali festival and those in the state's summer capital are engaged in stuffing the files in tin boxes for shifting them to Jammu. Visitors to the civil secretariat and other move offices are told that since the files are being packed their cases would be opened once the offices opened in Jammu. Senior officers, especially those in the police and intelligence agencies, are not yet sure whether they wll be able to move to Jammu soon after the offices close on October 31.The reason being the ensuing Assembly election. Some senior police officers said "we do not know whether we will be asked to stay put in Srinagar till the completion of the poll process or be directed to shift to Jammu for week or so and then return to the valley to be available for guidance during the polling days." Indications are that the work in Government offices and the civil secretariat would be affected because of the seven-phase election. The impact will be either in the form of nonavailability of officers in their departments or some of the employees too would be put on election duty. However, efforts are being made to streamline the work schedule of the employees and officers so that peoples problems did not remain unattended. |
