| Avoid shortcuts to deal with terror: Narayanan | | | AGENCIES HYDERABAD, Oct 26: Stating that terrorism and communalism had become "major scourges" in the country, National Security Adviser M K Narayanan has asked the police to adopt right means to fight against them. Addressing a function after reviewing the "dikshant parade" of the 60th batch of IPS probationers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (NPA) in Hyderabad on Saturday, he said that Left wing extremism or Naxalite violence was the other major threat facing the country. The police force would have to ensure that right methods and means are adopted, avoiding short-term remedies while handling Naxalite situations or dealing with communal or ethnic issues that could lead to the unraveling of our inclusive social fabric, Narayanan said. Despite all the criticism leveled against the police force of our country, it is still the most vivid and recognized symbol of an organized society, Narayanan said adding that shortcuts may bring short-term gains, but in the long run it is the police force and society that would suffer. On the critical importance of intelligence inputs for police today, he said there was a need for each and every policeman to be an intelligence resource person. |
