Consumer rights of snow bound areas to be protected: Taj

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 12 - The Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Mr.Taj Mohi-ud-Din today convened a meeting of CAPD officers of Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Udhampur districts and reviewed the functioning of CAPD department.
Director CAPD, Mr. Vinod Koul and others senior officers were also present in the meeting.
The Minister reiterated that government has firmly resolved to make consumer affairs and public distribution department consumer friendly, transparent and accountable. He said that the consumer rights of snow bound areas of Poonch, Doda and Udhampur districts are to be protected at all costs. He asked the Director CAPD to increase 20 vehicles of atta for Kishtwar and 10 vehicles for Banihal towns out of existing supply and get ration only those people who are card holders. He directed the Chief Accounts Officers of every districts to check the remittance on monthly basis and sent the report to Minister.
He said the present government is committed to root out the menace of adulteration profiteering and black-marketing. He asked the authorities to prepare the list of card holders and need of food grains in their districts. He revealed that sufficient stock of food grains available in CAPD and FACI Godowns for two months for the benefit of consumers. For Doda district, the Minister directed to dump the stock of food-grains for 6 months for the convenience of people. He said that to adopt the Kerosene distribution policy of Centre. He asked the officers not to sale Kerosene oil to LPG connection holders.
He said that protection of consumer's interests was his basic duty. He said that traders involved in the malicious practices would not be spared. He asked the CAPD authorities to display price lists at ration depots for the convenience of general masses. He informed the officers the government has decided to initiate process for re-reorganisation of the department in view of work load would be streamline after the introduction of new schemes launched by State and Central governments. Efforts are afoot for proper distribution of essential commodities to rural as well as hilly areas people including LPG, Kerosene Oil, Atta, Rice and Sugar.
