SHO Thathri injured in stone pelting by Sand Mafia

KISHTWAR, Aug 21: The sand mafia in Prem Nagar area of Thathri Sub Division in Doda District today pelted the stone on Police party in which SHO Police Station Thathri was injured and was shifted to Doda Hospital.
As per the details available with with Early Times, a protest was held against the local contractor by some labourers who used to carry sand for commercial purposes at Shibnote area of Prem Nagar in Thathri area. The agitating labourers were demanding that they should be allowed to carry sand extraction despite the area was allotted to a contractor through government auction.
The eyewitness said that hen SHO Thathri Amrit Katoch reached spot and tried to talk with protesters, they became violent and started stone pelting on Police party in which, SHO Thathri received injuries and shifted to Doda hospital. Later, more police rushed to spot and protesters were dispersed.
In stone pelting incident, police vehicle also suffered massive damages while few vehicles who got stranded due to protest also suffered damages beside injuries to some pedestrians.
Following the incident some local of Prem Nagar and Thathri hold protest in Prem Nagar demanding strict action against stone pelters added that the incident is aimed to malign the image of the people living in this area. The angry residents condemn the stone pelting on police party added that the sand mafia must be dealt with iron hands.
Meanwhile police has registered an FIR and so far has arrested five persons involved in stone pelting and assault on SHO Thathri.
An official in the administration told the Early Times that no one has approach the local administration over the issue before the emerging of law and order problem in the area and further said that when similar issue reported last year, SDM Thathri intervention led to the peaceful resolution of the same, but this time the labourers involved in the business took the law into their own hands instead of approaching the local administration
