| Panthers, PDP expanding base | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 29: Both the Panthers Party and the PDP have decided to contest more seats than the two contested in 2002.The Panthers Party has decided to field candidates in 63 constituencies, ncluding 26 in Kashmir valley,when in 2002 it had contested 36 seats. So far it has announced the candidates for 59 constituencies. Its leadership is finding it difficult to selected candidates for Jammu,West, Jammu East ,Gandhi Nagar and Kalakot constituencies fromwhere a large number of party activists have applied for tickets.Party General secretary,Harsh Dev Singh,today said “we will be releasing the names of the candidates for these four constituencies within one week.” In 2002 poll the PDP had won 16 seats.It had added two more during the byelection when it won Amirakadal and Rafiabad seats. From Rafiabad Dilawar Mir, who had defected from the National Conference, had been reelected to the Assembly. The PDP has decided to contest all the 87 seats when it had fielded candidates in 59 constituencies in 2002 election.Party sources said that the list of candidates for over 80 seats has been prepared and the party high command was giving final touches to the panel of names. Reports said that the PDP decided to contest the election after its leadership felt that its self-rule concept had received good response from the people.According to these reports,he PDP is likely to field all those who had won the 2006 election except for Ghulam Hassan Mir and Sarafaraz Khan,who had parted company with the Muftis. |
