| BJP list likely soon | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 29: The BJP high command will examine the list of candidates it has received from the state unit before releasing it. The senior party functionaries are scheduled to meet in Delhi on October 31.The President of the state unit of the party, Ashok Khajuria, will also participate in the meeting. The BJP, which had won only one seat in 2002,has decided to contest more than 30 seats in the Jammu region and about 10 in the Kashmir valley. The party leadership is confident that it would fare well in the ensuing election. Ashok Khajuria today said “we are sure to win more seats because of the response of people t o our pre-poll rallies. ”He said the senior party leaders have been visiting various areas in the Jammu region and the decision to set up village and block committees has proved a fruitful exercise as “our leaders at the block and tehsil levels have been able to make inroads in the areas dominated earlier by the Congress.” In reply to a question he said the BJP would give a tough fight to the Congress in at least 25 constituencies in the Jammu region. On the other hand Harsh Dev Singh said it would be Panthers Party versus the rest in over 20 constituencies in the Jammu region. Since all the mainstream political parties have decided to contest more seats than they did in 2002 a large number of constituencies were going to witness multi-cornered contest. |
