Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 31: Police on Tuesday detained a 17-year-old Afghanistan national at Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir in Kathua district.
The detained person, as per police sources, had come to India on valid documents as an attendant to his injured brother who is an Afghan Army soldier.
"His identity was revealed from his Passport and Visa," they said adding that he was taken to Lakhanpur Police Station for further inquiry.
The detained person is identified as Abdul Rehman, 17, Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua Ramesh Kotwal said adding, "so far it has been found that his brother, an Afghan Military soldier, is undergoing treatment at RR Hospital Delhi." "He has come to India to treat his brother along with 10 other injured persons," police said.
According to police, they have suffered injuries while fighting against the Taliban in Afghanistan.
He said that as per initial reports, the detained person has valid visa and passport details on his mobile. He was detained at a COVID testing centre established at Lakhanpur entry point in Kathua district.
The boy was stopped at Lakhanpur near the J&K-Punjab border, where the restriction on movement of any person was imposed under COVID guidelines and for testing. "We are investigating his motto of visiting J&K," said the SSP.
The detention of the Afghan national comes at a time when the Taliban has taken over the full control of the country and when the last US soldier has left Afghanistan as part of the US forces' pull-out from the country.
Security forces in Kashmir have already been on a high alert to ensure there is no infiltration of Taliban militants into J&K territory.
