SRINAGAR, Aug 31: Asserting to make villages as independent Economic Units, Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said effective and efficient Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) are driving force of a developed, prosperous and self reliant nation.
Addressing the Outreach programme for Empowerment of Panchayati Raj institutions of J&K UT, which was inaugurated by Speaker, Lok Sabha Shri Birla Sinha said the unique initiative is intended to strengthen Institutions of Governance and Planning at the grassroots level.
"Efficient and Effective PRIs are driving force of a developed , prosperous and self-reliant nation", he said.
Sinha said in J&K, Funds, Functions and Functionaries have been made available to PRIs.
He said first time in J&K's history distt. capex budget of Rs12,600Cr was conceived after consultation with 3-tiers of PRIs.
"We should strive to make villages as independent Economic Units. Their self-reliance and economic independence can effectively bridge the rural-urban divide. In last 2 years, sustained efforts have been made in the UT to empower villages through participatory developmental process", LG Sinha said.
"I urge all elected representatives to establish PRIs as an effective service provider facilitating access to government welfare schemes in a transparent and accountable manner," he said adding government is committed to PRI member's security & will extend every possible capability in exercising their duty. The security issues of PRI members was earlier raised by the former Chief minister and National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah.
