Phunsog alongwith Principal Secretary, PHE, I&FC, Mr. A. K. Angurana, Chief Engineer, PHE, Jammu Mr. V. K. Abrol and MD JKPCC, Mr. Dalip Thusoo today visited Sitlee filtration plant to review the progress of execution of Intake Unit-III presently under construction. After acknowledging the progress so far, he issued instructions to the concerned agencies to complete the Intake structure and the Filtration Plant in all respects by the stipulated timeframe of December 30, 2008 and January 26, 2009 respectively. Later, while reviewing the overall situation of water supply in Jammu City (urban areas), he was informed that against water requirement of 37 MGD to meet the national norm of 135 litres per capita per day, availability was only 24 MGD from the existing sources. There was a shortfall of approx 13 MGD as of March 2009 as per standard norms of urban water supply. The deficit of 13 MGD shall be made up with the commissioning of the IV Filtration plant at Sitlee on 26th January 2009, to the extent of 7.20 MGD and the balance 5.8 MGD with the commissioning of 52 tubewells which have been dug by ERA and to be commissioned in a phased manner by March 2009. it is expected that by March 2009 the entire requirement of Jammu city i.e. 37 MGD would be met. It was informed by PDD authorities that dedicated power supply from Gladni and Janipur Feederswould be made available well ahead of the commissioning of the 3rd Intake project at Sitlee. A 3rd feeder from Barn would also be made available by end of April 2009. Based on the prescribed per capita consumption of water, water requirement in the year 2023 was projected at 47.53MGD. It was given out that a project estimated to cost Rs.290 crore has been submitted to CPHEEO authorities in the Government of India who are expected to provide funds for the same under JNNURM. Thus the requirement of Jammu urban areas as per the national norms would be met entirely from March 2009 to 2023. The PHE department also mentioned that a prospective plan is being formulated to meet requirements of the city up to 2038. |
