| Vohra asks teachers to put in extra time | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 29: Governor, Mr N N Vohra, today expressed grave concern over the irreparable loss suffered by students due to recent disturbances and exhorted teachers to put in extra time for enabling the students to complete the prescribed curriculum. Interacting with a deputation of the Kashmir University Teachers Association, led by Dr M I Mattoo, during his public hearing this morning, the Governor said that the careers of students cannot be allowed to be jeopardized as a result of the frequent hartals and bandhs. Vohra called upon the civil society to help in creating conducive academic atmosphere in the institutions of learning, as the future of whole generation was at stake. He said the teaching community, as also the parents have an onerous responsibility in guiding and shaping the destiny of our youth. The deputation apprised the Governor that extra classes were being taken even on holidays to make good the loss which has already been suffered. The deputation also put-forth their problems faced by the faculty and demanded implementation of the UGC Pay Commission Report in toto. During his public hearing, third in a row, 11 deputations and several individuals met the Governor and presented memoranda, listing community and individual problems. Most of the demands related to the development of their areas, like upgrading medicare and educational facilities, improvement in road connectivity, laying of play-fields, supply of drinking water etc. The deputations included the Social Welfare and Developmental Organisation, Tangamarg and the Welfare Committee, Gulshanabad-Hyderpora. The deputations of the Representatives of J&K Sainik School, Manasbal, the State Forest Services Officers Association and the Faculty of Government Medical College, Srinagar raised service matters while the Retired Employees of SRTC sought some source of sustenance in the shape of regular financial assistance and clearance of their dues from the Corporation. The Kashmir Cloth Woolen Mills, Zainakote, Srinagar demanded the Government intervention in the procurements of woolen blankets for the Government institutions under Private Public Partnerships while All Jammu and Kashmir Handloom Development Corporation Association sought better and viable avenues of marketing for their produce. The deputation of the J&K Political Migrant Forum, led by Mr S M Shabnam, brought to the notice of the Governor various problems of the political migrants, belonging to various communities, and sought their rehabilitation. The deputation of J&K Electropathy Doctors Association, demanded employment avenues for the pass out candidates. The Governor heard the problems of the individuals and the deputations and assured that these would be earnestly examined by the concerned authorities. |
