206 polling booths for 1.67 lakh voters in Doda district
Voting on Dec 17 in sixth phase

Doda district, after the carving out of Kishtwar district, is now left with two constituencies of Doda and Bhaderwah. The district will go to polls on December 17th in the sixth phase of J&K Assembly elections. The total electorate registered for polling in 2008 elections is 1,67,020 out of which 85,465 are male and 81,555 female voters. The total number of polling stations to be set up in 2008 elections are 206, as compared to 199 established in 2002 elections.
53-Doda
The total electorate eligible to vote in 2008 Assembly elections from this constituency is 72,847. Of this, 37,495 are male and 35,352 female voters. The number of polling stations to be set up is 94, as compared to 92 set up in 2002 elections.
Mr. Abdul Majid, an independent candidate, was elected from this constituency in 2002 winning the seat by a margin of 607 votes by defeating his nearest NC rival Mr. Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy. While Mr. Majid received 13,799 votes, Mr. Khalid polled 13,192 votes. The total registered electorate in the 2002 polls was 70,278 out of which 39,104 voters exercised their right to vote. The total poll percentage was recorded at 55.64.
This constituency was represented by NC candidates Mr. Ghulam Ahmad Wani and Mr. Lassa Wani in 1957 and 1962 polls . Mr. Lassa Wani again won this seat in 1967 on a Congress ticket. Mr. Hans Raj Dogra of INC was elected from here in 1972 and Mr. Ghulam Qadir Wani of JP won the seat 1977 elections. Elections were suspended in 1983 while as Moulana Atta Ullah Suharwardy of NC won in the 1987 elections. He retained the seat in 1996 again. However, due to the demise of of Mr. Atta Ullah Suharwardy, by-elections were held in the constituency and Mr. Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy of NC was declared elected.
54-Bhaderwah
The total electors eligible to exercise their franchise in the constituency in 2008 elections are 94,173. Of these, 47,970 are male and 46,203 female voters. The number of polling stations to be set up in the constituency is 112, as compared to 107 in 2002 elections.
Mr. Mohammad Sharief Niaz of INC was elected from this constituency in 2002 elections. He polled 16,962 votes and defeated his nearest NC rival Mr. Mohammad Aslam by a margin of 6,827 votes. Mr. Aslam received 10,135 votes. A total of 49,628 voters voted out of 91,478 registered electorate and the poll percentage was recorded at 54.25. Due to the resignation of Mr. Niaz, by-election was held in Bhaderwah constituency on 24th April, 2006. Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad of INC was elected from this constituency in the said by-election.
The constituency was represented by Mr. Chuni Lal of NC in 1957 and 1962 while as Mr. Jagat Ram and Mr. Bodh Raj of the Congress party won the 1967 and 1972 elections. Mr. Narayan Dass of JP won from here in 1977 while as Mr. H.L. Hiteshi of NC wrested the seat in 1983. Mr. Hari Lal of INC represented the constituency in 1987 while as Sheikh Abdul Rehman of BSP won from Bhaderwah in 1996.
