JK’s first Hajj flight takes off for Jeddah

SRINAGAR, Oct 30: The holy annual Hajj pilgrimage of Muslims to Mecca and Madina has begun and first batch of pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir have taken direct flight to Jeddah this morning.
The first batch of 166 Haj pilgrims was accorded send off by Governor NN Vohra at the Srinagar Airport today. With the first flight taking off today, the departure schedule of pilgrims belonging to Jammu and Kashmir for performing the Haj this year commenced.
Advisor to Governor HH Tyabji, Chairman J&K State Haj Committee A. G. Shahbaz, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Masaud Samoon, Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar and Budgam besides Chief Executive Officer, State Haj Committee were present on this occasion.
The Governor enquired from the pilgrims about the facilities provided to them by the Administration. The pilgrims expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the State Haj Committee and other allied agencies. The Governor individually met the pilgrims and asked them to pray for peace and prosperity of the State.
Tyabji also met the pilgrims and enquired about the facilities and arrangements.
Earlier, the pilgrims were extended facilities of custom clearance, emigration and foreign exchange under one roof at the Haj House, Bemina. They were taken to the airport in comfortable buses of the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC). The J&K Bank had made arrangements of light refreshment for the pilgrims at the Haj House. Volunteers of Home Guard extended assistance to the pilgrims and also helped in carrying their baggage. The Haj pilgrims who belonged to various areas of the Valley expressed satisfaction over the arrangements stating that the movement from their residences to the airport was hassle-free. They expressed gratitude to the concerned departments for the arrangements made for their convenience.
The HDFC Bank extended foreign exchange facility of 2,100 Saudi Riyals to each Haj pilgrim. The J&K Bank also provided extra foreign exchange facility of 50,000 Saudi Riyals to the pilgrims.
