PDP shows ‘strength’ in Surankote

POONCH, Oct 31: Amidst shouting pro-peace slogans, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate from Surankote assembly constituency Dr Mumtaz Bukhari today filed his nomination papers for the coming assembly elections. Thousands of PDP workers and locals were present when Dr Mumtaz Bukhari filed his papers. Party general secretary Daman Bhasin was also present when Mr Bukhari filed his papers.
Earlier a big procession was taken out in the town. PDP leaders and supporters received spiritual leader Baji Muzaffar Ali Shah from Dera Gali and later took out an impressive procession which passed through different areas of Surankote.
Addressing the gathering after filing his nomination papers, Mr Bukhari said that PDP has changed fate of the people of the border district of Poonch. He pointed out that it was all due to the efforts of PDP leadership that crossing points were opened Line of Control and trade was also started between both sides of Kashmir.
Dr Bukhari, while highlighting achievements of PDP led coalition in the State, said that Mufti Mohammad Sayed as Chief Minister has set an example of good governance. He said that successive National Conference regimes befooled the people in name of Muzaffarbad road and it was the PDP leadership who was instrumental in the opening of this road. He further pointed out that PDP led regime took sincere efforts to complete the Mugal road for the economic growth of Poonch and Rajouri districts.
Party general secretary Daman Bhasin, district president Hamid Manhas, Shouqat Manhas (advocate), Qazi Abdul Aziz, Peer Taba, Mukthiar (advocate), Ashiq Hussain, retired DFO and Haji Barf Din also addressed the gathering the asked the people to support PDP in the coming assembly elections.
Meanwhile PDP received a shot in the arm when independent candidate from Mendhar constituency Shakir Ahmed Malik withdrew in favour of Dr Mumtaz Bukhari.
