Army to organize All Women Cycle expedition

SRINAGAR, Sept 13: An exclusive All Women Cycle expedition is being organized by Indian Army in which over 100 women are participating. This is for the first time that an expedition of such magnitude is being organized in Kashmir. The expedition is being done with an aim of Celebration of 75 yrs of independence and express solidarity with men in uniform, and promoting Women Empowerment. Women not only from Kashmir but from all the parts of the country are taking part in it. 65 km long expedition will start off from Baramulla and end at LoC Kaman Aman Setu Uri. The flagging off ceremony will be done by known fitness enthusiasts and Iron Man Winner Milind Soman and Pinkathon Ambassador Ankita Konwar. Major Arpita Dwivedi who is presently posted in Jammu is also among the cycle enthusiasts who is taking part in the event. Along with her Ms Preeti Maske first women cyclist from Pune to complete 6000km golden quadrilateral in 24 days, Capt Manjula Katoch (Retd) one of the Pinkathon ambassador in Delhi, Shimpy Bajwa a certified triathlete, 74 yr old Nirupama Bhave who has been cycling for last 20 yrs, 16 yr old Baramulla girl Anush and Preety, Rohini, Ananya to name a few among the expeditioners.
Major Arpita Dwivedi says it will not only showcase solidarity with men in uniform but will also encourage fitness by picking up cycling as a hobby for women of all ages. Cycling is not only a great way to maintain fitness but our contribution to world to curb global warming.
