| KP’s seek IDP status | | | AGENCIES NEW DELHI, Oct 31: Kashmiri Pandits from various organizations today in the capital participated in a joint silent sit in protest to seek the intervention of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, who is on a 2 day visit to India; to declare the 'Kashmiri Pandit community' as Internally Displaced Person's (IDPs) as per the definition of the United Nations. The protest was organized outside the UN High Commission for Refugee's (UNHCR) near Jor Bagh. While welcoming the UN Secretary General to India; the exiled community appealed to his conscience to take cognizance of the plight of more than four lakh Kashmiri Pandit’s who had to leave their homes and hearths back in the valley. Even after 19 years after mass exodus, more than 50,000 of these Kashmiri Pandit refugees are living in pathetic conditions in uninhabitable refugee camps. Among other organizations which participated in the silent sit in protest included Roots in Kashmir, Panun Kashmir, Kashmiri Samiti Delhi, Internally Displaced Kashmiri Pandit Youth Front, All India Kashmiri Samaj, Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch, All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference, Panun Kashmir Youth Front, Kashmiri Pandit United Forum and Jammu and Kashmir National United Front. |
