| Deptt of Foreign Languages; MA 5 years integrated prog in offing: VC | | JU holds 117th Syndicate Meeting | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 15: The 117th meeting of the Syndicate of University of Jammu (JU) was held today under the chairmanship of Prof Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu during which various academic and administrative matters were discussed. In his opening remarks, Prof Dhar extended a warm welcome to Atal Dullo, Additional Chief Secretary/Financial Commissioner (Financial Adviser, Universities) and Sushma Chauhan, Secretary, Higher Education, J&K for their wholehearted support in various activities of the University. Prof Dhar also extended a warm welcome to all the newly appointed members of the Syndicate, particularly Prof JP Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology, Gorakhpur, Prof Chandra Bhushan Sharma, School of Education, IGNOU, New Delhi and Prof Sunita Singh Sen Gupta, Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi.
Prof Dhar said that recently the University of Jammu signed MOU with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu. Prof Dhar further said the University of Jammu has developed facilities for high throughput genomics research and has pioneered human genetic research and counselling in the region. The MOU will help in giving a push to research on human diseases with the active involvement of GMC, Jammu and other institutions. Prof Dhar highlighted achievements of the University in the last three years that includes the establishment of a Research Cluster based on seven Centres of Excellence, Incubation, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Skill Development and Jammu University Special Purpose Vehicle Foundation. Vice-Chancellor said that the University of Jammu has become the first University in J&KUT which has been selected by University Grant Commission (UGC) as per the provisions stipulated under regulation 3(B)(a) to start a full-fledged Online degree programme in Masters in English and Commerce. Prof Dhar further informed the members that in view of glorious achievements of India in Tokyo Olympics, the University is proposing to name its Gymnasium Hall after ace Shuttler PV Sindhu and same was endorsed by members of the University Syndicate.
The Syndicate in principle agreed to establish Department of Foreign Languages and office for International Affairs at JU. Syndicate endorsed the adoption of policy document of Industry-Academia Partnership Centre and Norms Governing Industry-Academia Partnership Centre in the University. The syndicate endorsed the start and affiliation of new Medical Colleges and paramedical and nursing Courses in Govt Medical Colleges. Start of MA Five Years Integrated Programme was also endorsed by the members. Members also applauded the adoption of statutes for four years integrated BA. B.Ed/ B.Sc B.Ed and three years integrated B.Ed, M.Ed programmes. Syndicate adopted scheme and statutes for M.A Education programme (self-financing) to be offered by the Directorate of Distance Education from the academic session 2021-22. It was also endorsed to start three months Skill Development Course in Bakery and Confectionary at Udhampur Campus with the objective for the betterment of the local community, developing entrepreneurship skills and creating income-generating activities. |
