| New trekking routes identified in Udhampur | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Oct 30: After getting a good response during this year’s trekking, four new trekking routes have been identified by Youth Hostel Association of India (YHAI) in district Udhampur to be explored during the trekking programmes scheduled for next year. The idea to identify new trekking routes struck the state unit of YHAI after successful conduct of the National Heritage Trekking programme. In this state government supported trekking programme, trekkers from various parts of the country and also from USA, Germany, Italy and UK participated. To facilitate the development of these four identified and other existing treks in Udhampur district, a meeting took place under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner Udhampur, Ajay Khajuria. Mr Khajuria, who is also a Youth Hostler, laid emphasis of roping in travel and other adventure promoting agencies. He said that the trekking programmes should be arranged in such a manner that these must add to the economic growth of the backward classes besides providing an opportunity to the local youth to earn their livelihood by acting as local hosts and guides. The meeting was also attended by chairman YHAI J&K branch, S P Verma. Chairman YHAI Udhampur unit, Ashok Kumar gave a detailed description of the identified trekking routes in the district. The four new routes are: Dubigali to Mantalai via Badota Sankhpal Natha top Patnitop and Sudhmahadev (for foreign and other young trekkers); Panchari to Mantalai via Sankri, Madha, Patnitop, Patnitop Gouri Kund and sudh Mahadev; From Gangera Hill to Mantalai via Madha, Nathatop Sudhmahadev, Gauri Kund; Udhampur Parikarima (one-day trek. As also special trek for local members of YHAI including veteran starting from Sakom Boli and concluding at Jakaheni via Battal Ballian Mamaya temple Krimchi Gangera Hill has also been identified. Others present in the meeting were Subash Sharma, Sunil Badyal, P C Kotwal, Balwan Singh, Sunil Sharma, Ravi Singh and Vinod Khajuria. |
