| Names of game: contented v/s disgruntled | | | NIRBHAY JAMMUAL JAMMU, Oct 31: Though the poll fever is yet to grip Jammu and Kashmir number of political parties has started experiencing convulsions. It is just like one quitting an organization two joining it. One expelled from the party others are admitted in the organization. More convulsion and tremors are likely to be witnessed by the mainstream political parties once all of them complete the exercise on giving the mandate to the candidates. It is going to be the tale of contented versus the disgruntled. Those who get the mandate are satisfied and those who fail are bound to be dismayed. Well giving mandate is a lucrative assignment for those who recommend their names for allotment of tickets. This very situation left the BSP tottering after most of the senior leaders either formed a new organization or joined the National Conference or joined hands with Dr Satpal, who heads National Bahujan Party. One is used to feel the impact of the election on the political scene after the poll results are out. But in Jammu and Kashmir the impact has been felt even before the start of the polling. You have Hari Om, vice president of the BJP, sulking, fuming and fretting. He has resigned from the party which he had nursed for over six years as its chief spokes person. Though he has not mentioned any reason, in his letter to the party Chief, Ashok Khajuria, for quitting the party, informed sources say he left the party after he failed to fulfill his wish of getting the party mandate for contesting the forthcoming election. You have Yashpal Sharma who stands broken under the weight of promise breakers. When over nine months ago he joined the PDP he had been promised by none else than Mufti Sayeed that he would receive the party mandate for contesting the election. He had deided to ensure that the Mufti fulfilled his promise and in this connection he had travelled to Srinagar where during his meeting with the PDP patron, he received fresh assurance. He was let down by the Congress during the Poonch byelection in December 2007 when, despite deserving it, failed to get the congress mandate. For Chander Mohan Sharma, who had revived the Praja Parishad after quitting the BJP four years ago, it is almost "off and back" story. He had gone away from the BJP and now he is back in the BJP. However, his plan of bringing all those who matter in Praja Parishad to the BJP fold failed when he was expelled by his colleagues in Praja Parishad after refusing to join the BJP. Even though major political parties, including the Congress, the National Conference, the BJP and the Panthers Party, have decided to go alone to the polls their problem in selecting the candidates surfaced when each party received a large number of applications from ticket seekers. These ticket seekers thought that the situation, at least in the Jammu region, was conducive for heavy polling and the recent agitation over the land loss could make it easier for any candidate to win. Once all the parties complete announcing the names of their candidates the scope for sabotage within will become bright. |
