KVK Jammu organizes campaign on Poshan Vatika, tree plantation

JAMMU, Sept 18: A national level campaign on Poshan Vatika and Tree plantation on the occasion of International Year of Millets 2023 was organized under the leadership of Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J at KVK Jammu, RS Pura.
On this occasion, Chief Guest Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J connected online from SKUAST-K and explained the importance of millets in the healthy food of human beings. He stressed on the awareness programs on the use of millets in daily diets and development of affordable products with easy accessibility and better assimilation in the human body.
Prof S K Gupta, Director Extension SKUAST Jammu, Vidya Mottan, DDC Miran Sahib, Dr Sonika Sudan BDO Arnia, Nirmal Singh, Manager, Kisan Call center, IFFCO presided over during the programme along with more than 100 farmers and adolescent girls. During the programme, a cake made of pearl millet (Bajra) and value added Makhanas with sesame and jiggery provided by division of Post-Harvest Technology, SKUAST-J were served to Kanya's during the programme. All the farmers were provided a kit of vegetable seeds of rabi season and fruit plants namely Guava (Variety L 49) and Citrus for their kitchen gardens. Expert lectures on nutritional aspects of fruits, vegetable and animal sources were delivered during the programme by Dr Punit Choudhary, Sr Scientist & Head, Dr Ravneet Kour, Scientist and Dr Prem Kumar, Scientist, KVK Jammu respectively. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Amitesh Sharma. The programme was organized by KVK Jammu in collaboration with IFFCO.
