Migrants stage protest against non-disbursal of relief

JAMMU, Sept 18: All the relief holders of Jagti township took out a protest procession from Lane No 7 to National Highway today. Protesters staged demonstration on National Highway for an hour and demanded immediate release of monthly cash relief of relief holders.
Shadi Lal Pandita, president Jagti (JTC) and Soan Kashmir Front (SKF) J&K said that the Additional District Judge Commercial Court Jammu has attached the Major Head 2055, Sub Head 0872 and 1057 of Relief Commissioner (M) Jammu on the petition of M/S Bhatia Builders & Contractors, due to which the monthly cash relief of relief holders for the month of August has not been received yet. The relief holders are on the verge of death due to lack of monthly cash relief, he added.
Pandita said migrant relief holders have no money to buy food and medicines, adding that the education of children of relief holders is also getting affected. Pandita has appealed to the state and center government and also judiciary to remove the ban on migrant relief department treasuries from which the migrant relief holders get relief as about 80,000 relief holders, including elderly, unemployed, children, are alive on this monthly cash relief.
Pandita also said that the JTC-SKF members have been protesting for the last 350 days but the government is still not meeting our demands which should be resolved as soon as possible. The others who participated in the protest included Raj Kumar Tickoo, Ravinder Koul, M L Razdan, Kamal Ji Pandita, Rakesh Tickoo, Shuban Ji Raina, Vinod Moza, S K Pandita, S K Kar, Gurmeet Singh, G M Khan and Ab Gafar Dar.
