EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 1: In connection with the observance of birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, great freedom fighter, eminent educationist and the first Union Minister of Education as the National Education Day on November 11, 2008, the Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, K. M. Wani along with Secretary, School Education, G. A. Peer and Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sudhanshu Pandey on Saturday reviewed the arrangements at a high level meeting of officers at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, here today. Director Colleges, N. D. Wani, Director School Education, Jammu,. Zahida Khan, Chief Education Officer, Jammu, Suresh Sharma, Principal GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Prof. Nalini Kohli, Coordinator IQCS Prof. Hemla Aggarwal and Principals of Degree Colleges of Reasi, Dharmari, Bishnah, Samba, R. S. Pura and Parade were also present in the meeting. Interacting with the officers, Wani said that Ministry of Human Resources Development has decided to celebrate the first National Education Day on November 11, 2008 throughout the country. Educational Institutions at all levels would be involved in the celebration of the said day in organizing seminars, symposia, essay writings, elocution competitions, workshops and rallies with banners, cards and slogans on the importance of education and the nation’s commitment to all aspects of education. Wani asked the authorities of schools and colleges to prepare the students of their respective institutions for symposium competition, which is going to be held on November 11, 2008 in the auditorium of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar on the topic ‘Maulana Azad’s Crusade for Education’. He said that on that day, the Ist, 2nd and 3rd students would be honoured. He asked the Principals to arrange photo exhibition on the life of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad for the awareness of students in the premises of colleges. |
