JAMMU, Sept 22: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday staged separate protests against the proposed opening of 100 Reliance retail stores in Jammu, joined small traders protest here and said it will continue its support to their agitation till the order of opening of new Reliance stores is revoked.
An impressive AAP protest procession comprising of hundreds of party activists shouting slogans against BJP started from party headquarters at Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
Led by AAP Jammu Observer Maneesh Sinha, the party activists staged a peaceful protest demonstration. As soon as party activists proceeded toward Press Club Jammu in support of the Jammu small traders, police swung into action and forcefully stopped the procession to move further. Rajesh Gupta Vice-President AAP Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency forcefully started moving forward following which police picked him and took him in the police bus and then started picking other leaders and activists and took them to police lines Jammu.
Earlier, Sinha while interacting with media expressed strong displeasure over the proposal of big companies like Reliance to open stores in Jammu in the retail sector, saying that if this happens then small shopkeepers of Jammu will be ruined.
"We saw what happened to the wine traders in Jammu. Now the bars have also been closed. The business of brick kilns came to an end. We have been continuously appealing to the Government for the last two years to take some steps to save the small traders of Jammu but no plea is being heard," he added.
