Governor reviews poll arrangements, meets deputations

GANDERBAL Nov 2: On the second leg of his visit to assess the overall security scenario and to take stock of the Election preparedness, Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, today visited Ganderbal, had interaction with the District Administration and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements being made for the smooth conduct of polls.
Vohra exhorted the District Administration to gear up for the democratic exercise and ensure that the electioneering by various political parties and contestants takes place in a peaceful environment. He stressed his Administration's commitment to ensuring free and fair Elections. The Governor expressed satisfaction over the arrangements put in place in the district and asked the District Administration to maintain close coordination with each of the other agencies engaged in the poll exercise.
Under the Phase Second of the current 6-phase Elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Ganderbal and Kangan segments of the newly carved out Ganderbal district would go to the polls on November 23.
The District Election Officer, Mr Abdul Majeed Khandey, informed the Governor that 3000 polling staff has been imparted EVM training at the specially held camps. He said that the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal has been designated as the Nodal Officer to oversee the arrangements with regard to the transportation, boarding and lodging etc of the entire polling staff. A Control Room has also been established in the Deputy Commissioner's office for providing uptodate election related information to political parties, contestants, Media, the general public and others concerned on telephone No. 9419768600.
The Governor was informed that the district has an electorate of 1,35,516 and 90% of the voters would have been provided Election Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) before the polls. For the smooth conduct of the polls, 179 polling stations have been established at 137 locations for which over 3500 polling staff have been designated.
The Governor also interacted with the locals and heard the problems of various deputations from all over the district. The deputations included the inhabitants of the Ganderbal town, led by the President of the local Municipal Committee, Mr. G.M. Lone; the Welfare Society, Waqoora; the inhabitants of Safapora; the farmers of Neelgrath; the Kangan Welfare Committee; the Development Committee, Manasbal and the Power Development Corporation Contractors Association. The deputations drew the attention of the Governor towards community problems and sought early redressal.

Vohra said that he will be visiting various areas in the coming days to have an on-the-spot appreciation of the problems of the people.
The Advisor to Governor, Dr Sudhir S Bloeria; Principal Secretary to Governor, Mr B B Vyas, DIG Central Range, Mr Muneer Khan, the District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal, Mr Abdul Majeed Khandey, and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr Nissar Ahmed Khan, were present on the occasion.
