Pandey monitors key City projects

JAMMU, Nov 2: Exhorting upon the executing agencies to strictly adhere to the time deadlines for completion of ongoing development projects, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sudhanshu Pandey on Sunday said that creation of infrastructure needs to be supplemented with the allied utility services like electricity, drinking water, sewerage and wider roads for making them fully functional and extracting maximum benefit from them.
Mr. Pandey said this while visiting the construction sites of Super Specialty Block of GMC, Jammu and Public Service Commission building, here today.
Chairman Public Service Commission Mr Mohammed. Shafi Pandit and Principal Government Medical College Jammu, Dr. Rajinder Singh also accompanied him.
Divisional Commissioner was apprised that under the project of up-gradation of Government Medical College Jammu under PMSSY, the Super specialty block housing Cardiology, Cardio-thoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, nephrology and urology super specialities is being constructed over an area of 45 Kanal. The six storey building would have 220 beds, 6 modular OT, laundry, kitchen and all other hospital services. Targeted to be completed by 31st December 2009, the Block would be totally air conditioned with electrical backup and latest state-of-the-art medical equipments.
Apprising about the bottlenecks in the project, Dr. Rajinder Singh said that a 33/11 KV Sub Station needs to be installed for making the Super Speciality fully functional besides working out method for appropriate sewerage treatment, procurement of medical equipments and gas pipeline.
At the site of PSC building, Mr. Pandit apprised that the PSC building and a guest house spread over 87000 sqft area is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 13 crore and would have eco –friendly technologies of solar lighting and rain water harvesting. He said that the construction would be completed by 31st January 2009.
Architect Mr. B.V. Sharma said that as first green building of the state extensive landscaping and use of eco-friendly technology are the unique features of the building.
Divisional Commissioner said that installation of equipments and allied utility services like sewerage treatment plant, approach roads; solar lighting etc should be incorporated within the plan of the building so that they can be made functional without any delay. He said that the concept of green buildings need to be replicated in other government infrastructure so as to blend ecology with work environment adding that modern constructions are all about enhancing the performance capability of workforce by giving them congenial work environment.
