Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Sept 25: District administration Rajouri has worked out a plan to promote Agribusiness by roping in Self Help Groups.
The District has immense potential for the dairy and Poultry sector and has also been selected as a Dairy district under the One District One Product scheme.
In this regard, District Development Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan today chaired a meeting here in his Officer chamber.
The District Development Commissioner said that the administration will provide all basic facilities to the Self Help Groups, as they can play an important role in the growth of the farm and allied sectors.
He directed the NRLM and Animal Husbandry Department to take proactive steps to constitute more Self Help Groups under the dairy sector so that the goal of establishing 5000 dairies in the district is achieved.
Similarly, the project of plantation of Ultra High-Density Apple has been started in the district and is expected to produce a bumper crop next season as per the experts who visited here a few days back, he said.
The District also has the best climate to grow ultra density fruits like Mango, Amla, Walnut and the need is to motivate the progressive farmers to adopt the latest intervention in this field for maximum benefits.
The District Development Commissioner urged the concerned Departments to hold special awareness camps exclusively for the women to encourage them to constitute self help groups and take up Agribusiness activities.
“The objective of the involvement of Self-help groups (SHG) in Diary and Apple cultivation is that they are a significant drive for poverty alleviation as well as to increase the well-being of rural women” the DC added.
Pertinently, special training of SHGs for making a craft by using pine needles has recently concluded in the district and the district administration is intending to organise more such training sessions at Sub-divisional and Block levels.
