| BJP threatens to approach HC against Govt. decision | | | Jammu, July 10: Claiming that the recent declaration by chief minister about the delimitation commission is completely in violation of the constitution and people's representatives act, Bharatiya Janta Party today threatened to move to the state high court after going through the government notification.
Addressing a press conference Party spokesman Prof. Hari Om, said that the State Chief Minister, who claims that he hails from Jammu, has turned out to be even worse, far more treacherous. "He has crossed all limits to damage Jammu province and perpetuate further the domination of the Valley over this province, which has been suffering gross discrimination ever since October 1947 at all levels and in all spheres" he said, adding "The hope of the people of Jammu province that they would now receive a fair deal because Ghulam Nabi Azad is leading the coalition government in the state has dashed to the ground".
Alleging that the Congress Chief Minister and his masters in New Delhi and Kashmir have joined hands against Jammu with a view to neutralizing this province and empowering kashmir- to further establish its stranglehold over this province and exploit and fleece it to the hilt.
Prof. said that the Chief Minister must go as his continuation as Chief Minister even for a day would mean total destruction of Jammu province, nay its annihilation from the state's political scene.
Even otherwise, he said Azad has forfeited his right to function as Chief Minister by committing a grave constitutional impropriety; by negating the very constitution under which we are governed.
Referring to July 6 declaration, Prof. said that the government has decided to set up a delimitation commission and that this commission shall increase 2S per cent assembly seats in Jammu province, 2S per cent in Kashmir and 2S per cent in POK means total subversion of the Representation of the People's Act.
His declaration, he added, simply indicates his contempt for the solemn commitment that the Congress under him made in 2002 to the people of Jammu that his party, if voted to power, would see to it that Jammu province got its due share in the assembly as well as for the constitution.
The Representation of the People's Act, it needs to be noted and highlighted, does not give any right to the government to direct delimitation commission to increase or decrease assembly segments in any province.
"The direction of the Chief Minister to the delimitation commission, which is yet to be appointed, if given effect to, would automatically mean 58 seats for Kashmir, as against the existing 47 seats for Jammu instead of the existing 37" he said and added that "In other words, it would mean a difference of 12 seats as against the existing difference of 9 seats, for the removal of which the people of Jammu province had been relentlessly struggling for".
He further said that it would also mean permanent slavery of Jammu as well as absolute political power in the hands of Kashmir to exploit, fleece and humiliate with utmost case the already grossly ignored Jammu province. The BJP, he added, would go to any extent to defeat all such evil designs of the Congress as are aimed at neutralizing and destroying Jammu or reducing it to a nullity.
It is unfortunate that the .Jammu-based leaders, including Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma, Madan Lal Sharma and Bhim Singh, and organizations like the Dogra Sadder Sabha are celebrating what the Chief Minister did to jeopardize the Jammu's interests; he said and added "they must remember that they are only celebrating the destruction of Jammu".
The BJP, he said, would expose each one of them. The BJP believes that the people of Jammu province, irrespective of their political affiliation, would see through the game plan of the Congress, Panther's Party and Dogra Sadar Sabha and help it expose those who have harmed, and continue to harm Jammu in order to fulfill their lust for power.
