| Not sufficient engineers to run Baglihar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 2: The state Power Development Department (PDD) is finding it difficult to spare engineers to run state owned Baglihar power project. To begin with the department has first short listed over 30 engineers of the rank of Assistant executive engineers to impart training to them in order to smoothly run the power plant after it was handed over to the Power Development Corporation. The department which is facing acute shortage of junior engineers in the absence of non fulfillment of vacant seats is hard pressed against sparing these engineers to PDC as senior officials believe un- till more junior engineers join the services it will be difficult for them to spare their junior engineers in large numbers. Project commissioned in the second week of October, it is yet to be handed over to the PDC because of paucity of engineers who could run the machines. Official sources said that for running the plant the PDC required more than 140 engineers, including 32 Assistant Executive Engineers, 20Assistant engineers and over 100 junior engineers and other support staff. These engineers will have to work under five Executive Engineers. After completing training the senior engineers will impart training to their junior staff. The PDC, till date, has been drawing the man power from the PDD. According to the official sources, after the PDC failed to get response to its proposal for attracting engineers from the Power Development Department because the PDD is faced with shortage of junior engineers and hence it was unwilling to spare these engineers for manning the Bhagliar project. They said unless the PDD's requirement of engineers was fulfilled it was difficult to send on deputation engineers from the PDD to the PDC. The sources said presently only one turbine was functional while the other three would be made functional within next three months .They said so far not many engineers, working in the PDD, had opted for deputation to the PDC which prompted the Government to shortlist about 32 engineers for training in the handling of the plant. |
